Amherst's Class of '70 Celebrates Turning 70
Saturday, September 10, 2022

Registration is now open for our gathering on Saturday, September 10th, 2022, from noon until 3 p.m. It will be held under the outdoor pavilion at Island Park in Williamsville. Lunch will be catered by Anderson’s and will include hot roast beef and turkey sandwiches au jus on ‘weck, kaiser or gluten-free rolls; vegetable and pasta salads, soft drinks, and ice cream. We’ve also purchased a permit that will allow individuals to bring their own beer or wine.

THE MESSAGE THAT WE’D ALL HOPED WE WOULDN’T HAVE NEEDED
TO INCLUDE:

Covid safety protocols will be in place during the hours we’re together under the pavilion in order to allow everyone who wants to see their old Amherst friends to feel safe, especially our classmates who have underlying medical issues or live with someone who has such issues. Our covered outdoor space should be big enough to provide comfortable social distancing. There will be no self-serve buffet; food will be served individually plated. We’re also expecting that everyone who enters the pavilion will be fully vaxxed and boosted and will have had a negative rapid Covid test on Saturday morning.

Registration

To register and to purchase lunch tickets, please send your name, email address and the names of any guests that you’ll be bringing, along with a check (non-refundable) for $35 per person made out to “Amherst 1970 Gathering,” to Jean Yepes, D17 Carver Place, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648. The registration deadline is August 22, but we’re hoping that you’ll sign up much earlier to allow us to add your name to the list of classmates who are planning to be there.

Become a Supporter

There will be expenses beyond the costs of our lunch, including the pavilion rental, permit fees, tableware and decorations. If you would like to make a contribution and have your name added to the list of SUPPORTERS for our event, please send Jean a second check made out to: Amherst 1970 Gathering, with the word “Supporter” written in the memo line. If you would like to keep your contribution anonymous, just let us know. If funds raised exceed the costs of our event, the excess will be donated to the AMHERST ALUMNI FOUNDATION GRANT PROGRAM as a gift from the class of 1970.

ACHS Tour

The Amherst Alumni Foundation has arranged for us to have a tour of the High School on Friday afternoon, September 9th (the school building is closed on Saturdays and Sundays). Participants have been asked to meet at the flagpole in front of the school at 4 p.m. If you or any of your guests would like to join the tour, please click on this link SCHOOL TOUR or send an email to Amherst91070@gmail.com, type the word “Tour” in your subject line, give us your name and names of any guests who’ll be with you.

Other Activities

The schedule for the rest of your time in Buffalo will be entirely up to you. As we get closer to September, Peggy will be sending you suggestions for restaurants (in addition to Duff’s, Bocce’s and Ted’s) and places to visit in Canalside and other areas of Buffalo that have changed in exciting ways during the past 50 years.

Lodging

We’ve arranged for group blocks of discounted rooms at two good hotels near Island Park. Both provide free breakfast (giving you opportunities to be with classmates from the start of each day).

The Hampton Inn Williamsville is a short walk (0.3 miles) away from the Pavilion.

A limited number of rooms have been set aside for us at $179 per night (a great deal for the weekend rooms). The reserved rooms are available for any or all nights on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Our discounted rate offer expires on AUGUST 3rd .

Our group code is ACR

The Hyatt Place Buffalo-Amherst is a long walk but a short drive (1.5 miles) away from the Pavilion.

Our very discounted weekend group rate is $159 for a room with a King Bed, and $169 for a room with two Queen Beds - all rooms have a separate seating area with a sofa bed. The hotel is in the “Amherst Hospitality Campus” along with The Reikart House - which was formerly The Lord Amherst, has been upgraded to luxury status and also has a well-regarded bar and restaurant, Jazzboline, featuring live music with takeout food available.

Here is your booking link for the discounted rooms: https://www.hyatt.com/en-US/group-booking/BUFZA/G-AM70
Our booking code is: G-AM70

Booking at our discounted rate offer will expire on AUGUST 11th.

We suggest that you make your reservations as soon as you can because neither hotel was able to promise us that more rooms would be available at these lower rates after their 10 blocked rooms had been booked by members of our group. Rooms at both hotels are refundable up to 48 hours before your stay.

We’re looking forward to hearing from you and hope that we’ll be seeing you in September!
